Melt the following in a saucepan:
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 C. butter
Add:
3 C. sugar
Stir over medium heat until well mixed. It will look grainy from the sugar.
Add:
1 C evaporated milk
Stir over low heat for 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved
At the very end add 1 t. vanilla.
